Storage Bins FAQ

Answers for your storage issues

I want to save the best of my kids' school work/art as they grow. What's the best way to do this?

Well, storage bins and tubs come in many sizes and variations. Your options are fairly wide open. Ask yourself how much organization you want. Storage bins with slots or partitions could help, but after a few years, you may need more. Clear plastic storage boxes can work, too, but you may find it hard to keep the contents organized inside. Also, accessing the storage system will be important. A happy medium can be struck when you consider all your storage needs and space.

I've got a wide range of small fasteners in my shop. What is an efficient storage system to keep them organized?

Storing them in things like small glass jars may seem smart, but if they hit the floor, you have a big mess. Not to mention the hassle and danger of separating glass shards from them. There are many steel storage bins available that have any number of compartments to hold small fasteners, such as nails, screws, brads, clips, etc. Open and lying flat, they have easy access.

What about storage for large parts? My shop has bigger items that I need to store, yet the storage system should offer quick and easy access.

There are giant hopper bins available to fit your parts, some over 1100 cubic inches. And the great thing is that many models of them can stack to form a self-standing storage center. Made of hard plastic, they can be color coded for its particular use, and are quite durable.

I need to designate one wall in my shop for storage. I need a variety of container sizes. How do I create this?

The answer is a louvered panel and rail storage system. You can choose a storage system like this to be single-sided or double-sided. Many different sizes of storage hoppers and bins can be placed together on a louvered panel and rail to make it functional for your use.

I need storage for sensitive electronic equipment. Other bins I've used have interrupted performance. How do I solve this?

Electronic components can be kept in working order with bins that are ESD conductive. This type of storage cuts down on electromagnetic interference (EMI) so your electronic units keep performing properly. The conductive material provides a barrier from EMI, and should have an electrostatic decay rate of 0.1 second or less. This should meet most standards, including military specification Mil-B-81075B. Regular cleaning of the storage bins will not affect the conductivity.

There are some things that need to keep covered, but quickly accessed. Also, visibility from the outside is important. What is the solution?

Your storage solution is a tip-out bin with a clear window. These storage bins open to a 45 degree angle to easily access the contents, and you can easily view what is inside. Stack and uses as modular units or individually.

Sometimes, a group of items needs to be stored together, but also needs to be mobile. How can bins be mobile, yet stay together?

Mobile carts with one or more wire shelves are perfect for keeping storage bins together and their contents accessible and movable. They add functional storage in any workshop or garage.
