Storage Story
Few things compare to a brief but useful trip to the hardware store. Staring at a large grid of yellow boxes, labeled with their contents and price, always feels daunting at first. But you shake it off and remember what you came for: a pound of 2-inch wood screws and a handful of self-tappers. Storage bin racks have just saved you a fair chunk of time. Not to mention that the labels spared you the shame of asking to be shown a self-tapping screw, please.
A rack at home is worth two&
Down the aisle of storage bin racks, you'll see an array of cabinet hardware ranging from brushed nickel to antique brass. Now we're cooking with acetylene. With the shopping done, you find yourself at home in a workshop with bursting cabinets and drawers. In a brown bag, next to the epoxy and wire strippers, is about a pound of 2-inch wood screws. It's during times like these we all ask why our homes can't be as orderly as a hardware store.
The answer is, sadly, because the things we pull out of hardware store storage bin racks are so inexpensive that they don't merit a special place in our heads or garage. But the hassle and disappointment of buying something you already have is well worth organizing - after the fact. So pick up some lean storage bin racks for your garage, craft room, or even office. They come in a huge range of sizes and materials for any kind of use.
The obvious solution
Naysayers claim that their refuse hardware and whatnot is too varied to be stored in any other way than chaos. Be reasonable and get smart. Indexing similar parts of different shapes and sizes will give you a great place to start looking through your own supply before folding and going to the hardware store. And of course, reserve a storage rack or two for the un-categorizable garage jetsam for nostalgia's sake.
